About This Project
This project sought to enhance the capacity of 40th Street by widening to four lanes from Johnson Street to Electric Avenue, as well as upgrading the existing traffic signal to accommodate the new lanes. When the project is complete, 40th Street will be a four-lane arterial street from Kendall Drive to Valencia Avenue with painted median improvements and sidewalks.
The intersection of 40th Street and Electric Avenue was reconfigured to accommodate the street widening and additional lanes, which also included modifications to the existing traffic signal at 40th Street and Electric Avenue to provide a fully actuated traffic signal to match the new intersection configuration. The signal was to be designed to provide for future interconnection with other signals along 40th Street.
Work also included drainage reconfiguration with connection to adjacent channels and catch basins as well as ROW from adjacent residences and properties in the area. The project triggered the need for the drafting of a Mitigated Negative Declaration for the project.
